Over the next week my website code is being rewritten and the site is being transferred onto a CMS system. If you experience any downtime or other interruptions to the website in this time then I apologise. However it should be up and running flawlessly by the 30 July 2010.
This change will bring the code and security on my site completely up to date and will enable me to add new pages, photos and descriptions and enable me to change the overall structure of the site which will make it easier for people to navigate.

To all those who have been waiting on the entry of the RhGSM award to the BSAP Reserves, well, after many months, stretching into years I have finally finished. The database now has all the promulgated awards of the RhGSM made to members of the Police Reserve, National Service Police, and the Special Reserve. The total number of awards of the RhGSM to these sections of the BSAP is 14,480, split as follows:

12,039 Police Reserve

The figures above do include a small number of none promulgated awards that have been notified to me from recipients and collectors, one can only assume that these non-promulgated awards were ‘missed’ when the Force Orders were typed.

Dear friends,

Would you like to gather in London at the National Archives in Kew for a day, and sift through the various Rhodesian archives that are there?

I had thought about the 23rd-25th September, with the 25th being a Saturday it could be an ideal date? The 23rd being Thursday is the late opening day 19.00hrs, and the Friday being a normal day the archives close at 17.00hrs.

However the Saturday would possibly suit those of you who work during the week, and don`t overlook the potential for a Friday night stay in London and the opportunity to pull up a sandbag, swing the lantern and bore your fellow Rhodesian buffs with your superb tales of yore - they get really superb after a few beers - plus there is always the potential that somebody will fall off their sandbag.

I will make my annual visit to the National Archives between those dates (23-25 Sept), and am staying in Kew. If there is anybody interested in attending the National Archives on any of those days, then please let me know, as I will give assistance, if required, to help you with your Rhodesian, Medal or Family History research.

Best of luck, Jim.

Hi everyone and welcome to my first ever blog on the internet... I can now be called a 'blogger'. So what can I tell you, well, having moved house...

Hi everyone and welcome to my first ever blog on the internet... I can now be called a 'blogger'. So what can I tell you, well, having moved house from Cambridgeshire to Gwent I have officially crossed the border from England to Wales and the last few months have been spent upgrading the central heating and getting the walls replastered and so the work is now diminishing and I can start concentrating on the database and get back to entering more recipients and their awards.

The upgrade of the Forum software went well, although there was the odd scary moment as the upgrade progressed, and has been running for nigh on a week. I hope that you will find it more attractive to use, do let me know your thoughts.

On the database side, I have !!!!only!!!! another 1,000 odd RhGSMs to the BSAP Reserve to enter and then that will mean the database will have all the Force Order promulgated RhGSM awards to the BSAP Regulars and Reserves.

Alongside the above RhGSMs, I have been entering details of three other awards; I have been kindly given photos of the Southern Rhodesia War Diary which promulgate the award, to Rhodesian Forces of the Efficiency Decoration, Efficiency Medal and of some interest, the Africa Star and the 8th Army Clasp. The latter is not known to be promulgated elsewhere, and is proving to have been awarded to a number of latterly BSAP Reservists.

So my work is still ongoing and does take a lot of my time, but I feel it a worthwhile task.

Anyway, that's my blog for today, and I'll try and keep I up to date, but please don't leave me here on my own and start your own blog.

Until next time, go well
