    Default Coronation Rolls

I saw the comment in your database update:

Over recent years I have encountered difficulties in researching eligibility to Rhodesians for Coronation Medals. The sources tend to be:

PRO Rolls that vary in degrees of ease when it comes to finding Rhodesians listed
PRO Papers (from Royal Mint etc)
    London Gazettes
    Ad hoc rolls
Parade Literature (that highlights Rhodesians attending Coronation Parades in London and who by default were awarded a medal)
I also assume Zim Archives has material.

Is your figure of 253 for King's Silver Jubilee the total for all Southern Rhodesians - military and civilian? Thanks.

    Hi Rich,
The figure of 253 does include all recipients, civilian, miltary and police.
The 253 names have come from the Volume called

    King's Silver Jubilee Medal 1953.
Nominal Roll of Recipients of the Medal.
Newfoundland, Southern Rhodesia and the High Commission Territories (Basutoland, The Bechuanaland Protectorate and Swaziland).

There are 34 pages to the above Volume, which contains 516 awards in total, the difference being awarded to the other territories. As you know it is officially bound, much like all the others in the TNA. There must be approx 4-5 UK Volumes detailing awards to UK recipeints and I think another couple which cover India and another territory. So to answer your question I would suggest that the 253 to Southern Rhodesians would be correct.
There is of course the situation where a recipeint received a Jubilee Medal whilst in another territory, lets say India or even UK, then came to Rhodesia and received a Rhodesian award. The Jubille medal in this case would not be included in that figure of 253, but would be included in another Volume for India or UK.
This latter situation may be what you're experiencing in trying to tie down an exact figure. If you're tracking down a Jubille Medal that you have to a Rhodesian and he's not listed as having one i.e. included in the 253, then I would suggest a look in the UK Volumes or other territories. If this is the case let me know the details and the next time I'm at TNA then I'll look him up in the other Volumes.
    Hope that makes sense.
